How did your career in the lubricants industry begin?
It has only just begun. It wasn’t intentional, but the role was put to me and I found it to be super interesting and I felt that I could add value to the company. One of the biggest things that I found appealing is that it is working in a whole new industry.
How long have you worked at ROCOL and what attracted you to the company?
At the time of writing this, I’m on week nine. Two things attracted me to work at ROCOL. The first one is the heritage of the company and what I could add to that. The other was the people and their real desire to improve and move the company forward.
What are your favourites part of your role?
I love that there is an international angle to my role. I manage teams in four different countries. Each one has an amazing culture and huge amounts of enthusiasm, which is great.
That I get to solve problems and challenges both for customers and employees is also brilliant.
How do you spend your time outside work?
At the moment, life is very hectic as I am getting married and moving to a new house very soon. However, during slightly more normal times you will find me catching up with my grown-up children or reading. I’m a big fan of Martina Cole and Patricia Cornwall. For me, you just can’t beat a gritty gangster or murder mystery book.
I also love to get out walking, with Ladybower reservoir being a favourite. When the chance comes up, it’s always great to escape to Filey for a walk. I’m a big fan of the seaside and Filey feels like a bit of a hidden gem.
Share one fact that your colleagues wouldn’t know about you
People may be surprised to know that I have a passion for music festivals. I didn’t go to one until I went to Leeds Festival in 2019 as part of my 40th and my daughter’s 18th birthday celebrations. I’m now hooked!
It may surprise some people as I normally like to be clean, but I’m very happy to spend four nights in a sleeping bag at a festival. For me, the main attraction is discovering new bands. Going to them has opened up so much new music, I love it.
