GLOBAL leader in industrial lubrication and maintenance solutions, ROCOL ®, has announced it has become the first company in the lubricants industry to receive the National Sanitation Foundation’s (NSF) new PFAS Free certification for four products in its FOODLUBE® range.
The leading global public health and safety organisation approved ROCOL’s food grade lubricant products with its NSF 537 certification following extensive testing.
The accreditation, which can only be issued by the NSF, was launched earlier this year (March 2025), and is the first of its kind marking a major milestone in food safety and environmental responsibility.
According to ROCOL, the company chose to first test the most widely used lubricants in the FOODLUBE range; FOODLUBE Premier 1, FOODLUBE Universal 2, FOODLUBE WD Spray, and FOODLUBE Chain Spray products.
ROCOL is currently working with the NSF to test a further 25 FOODLUBE products in its range for the NSF 537 certification, which it hopes to receive later this year.
PFAS, often referred to as ‘forever chemicals’, have come under scrutiny in recent years due to growing concerns about their persistence in the environment and potential links to health risks.
Today’s announcement follows ROCOL becoming the first company to remove PFAS from an entire product range last April, which reduces roughly 425 kilograms from polluting the environment every year.
By eliminating substances from its FOODLUBE products, ROCOL says it is helping food manufacturers and other customers across the food industry meet increasingly strict safety standards while also reducing environmental impact.
The FOODLUBE range is trusted not only for its high performance but also for its robust food safety credentials, with key accreditations such as NSF H1 registration and ISO 21469 certification, ensuring the range offers technical reliability, reassurance in food safety, hygiene, and contamination control.
Jess Baker, Senior Scientist at ROCOL, who also worked with the NSF on the testing for the new certification, said: “The NSF’s new PFAS accreditation is a significant step forward for the food industry, and we’re proud to have helped bring it to life. Being the first to receive this certification reflects our commitment to both our customers and the planet, setting a new industry benchmark.”
“This milestone reinforces the quality, durability, and safety of our FOODLUBE products, while upholding the highest environmental standards. We’re looking forward to completing the accreditation across the full range.”
“I would urge others in the industry to follow suit and get accredited. The NSF team were incredibly supportive throughout the process, and collective action is essential to tackling the issue of forever chemicals.”
The rigorous testing process by NSF included in-depth analysis of raw materials, formulation transparency, and robust supply chain auditing.
