The research collaboration between ROCOL and the University of Leeds was recently represented at one of the most renowned conferences in the field of tribology (the science of friction, wear and lubrication). The 39th Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology convened from 4-7th of September 2012 at Trinity and All Saints College in Leeds.
The symposium drew over 170 delegates from 22 countries, including many leaders in the field from both academia and industry. The theme of the conference was ‘great challenges in tribology’.
ROCOL and the University of Leeds presented research arising from their Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) collaboration. In the presentation ?Effective Lubricant Supply to High Speed PEK-Steel Contacts*, Dr Chris Dyson spoke on challenges of keeping polymers lubricated at high temperature and speed, and the benefits of industrial-academic collaboration.
The School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds has a strong reputation for high quality research in tribology. Researchers at Leeds were involved as tribology was established as a science and current researchers continue to be involved in leading industrial, automotive and biomedical tribology research.
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are an initiative of the Technology Strategy Board designed to facilitate direct collaboration between industry and academia.
